OSA is a common disease with over 17 million moderate/severe patients in the United States alone. It is estimated that over 1 million new diagnoses are made each year in the U.S. OSA is associated with excessive daytime sleepiness, an increase in the incidence and risk of stroke, hypertension, heart disease, type II diabetes and heart failure.
The tongue base is estimated to be involved in 80% of OSA patients. Current surgical treatment options for the tongue base are either painful, not effective or overly invasive. Tongue suspension is a promising approach for preventing tongue base airway obstructions in OSA, but existing technologies have limitations that make the procedure difficult, painful and less than optimally effective.
Siesta's FDA cleared Encore™ System and procedure greatly improves tongue suspension with a more effective, simpler, and better controlled procedure. Our Encore™ System allows for better control over the location that suspension loops are placed in the tongue, allows for placing multiple suspension loops in the tongue more easily and also allows for more precise tensioning of the suspension loop. The Encore™ procedure is completely reversible.
